Ghiyazuddin A. Mohammad is a financial inclusion/digital financial services (DFS) consultant with eight years’ experience in DFS, microfinance and advisory services. Ghiyaz has worked in various projects with banks, mobile network operators (MNOs), government institutions, MFIs and local financial institutions in India, Nepal, Kenya, the Philippines and Indonesia. Currently, he is based in Indonesia with special focus on financial inclusion/DFS related initiatives.
His areas of expertise include mobile money/DFS strategy, G2P payments, and market research to understand customers’ needs, concept testing, product development, field assessments, and monitoring and control systems.
Some recent examples of his work include:

  • Development of Branchless Banking Ecosystem for a large bank in Indonesia, funded by e-MITRA: Developed appropriate product use cases for its branchless banking channel, developed agency network capability and launched a pilot in East Java for Bank Mandiri, one of the largest commercial banks in Indonesia.   • Branchless Banking/Digital Financial Services Risk Management Strategy for a bank in Indonesia, funded by e-MITRA: Developed branchless banking/digital financial services risk management strategy to mitigate impending risks and enable faster scale-up of operations for BTPN, a fast growing microfinance bank in Indonesia.   • The Helix Institute’s Core Agent Network Accelerator Course in Kenya, Indonesia and the Philippines, funded by The Helix Institute of Digital Finance: Conducting Core Agent Network Accelerator course, training sessions on agent selection, agent on-boarding and case study discussions on agent management strategy ( (2014)

  • Mobile Financial Services (MFS) Ecosystem Assessment in Indonesia for Indosat, a leading mobile network operator in Indonesia, funded by e-MITRA: Research design, stakeholder interviews, and mobile money product/concept development. (2014)

Before joining MicroSave, Ghiyaz worked for Darashaw and Co., a financial services company based in Mumbai, in its Investment Banking and Retirement Benefits division. At Darashaw, he was responsible for business development, origination and placement of funds for private and government organisations, especially through debt structures like term loans, working capital loans, municipal bonds, state government guaranteed bonds, and rated corporate bonds. He holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Business Management from Goa Institute of Management.
