Puneet Chopra heads the Banking, Product Development and Private Sector Development Practice Groups at MicroSave. He is an expert in business planning, strategy and operations; consumer research; product development and innovation; distribution channels; marketing; process reengineering; project and programme management. With a career spanning over two decades, he has diverse experience in various roles and capacities across banking, financial services, insurance, telecommunications, information technology, media, entertainment and transportation industries. 
Puneet plays a key role at MicroSave in business development, project delivery, developing thought leadership, enhancing knowledge assets, skill building and leadership development. He manages several client, donor and stakeholder relationships in Asia, Pacific and Africa.
Puneet has extensive experience working across Africa, Asia, Pacific, Europe and North America, managing large teams and assignments. Over the last few years he has been working on digital financial services and solutions along with a cross-section of MNOs, banks, NBFCs, financial institutions, regulators, government organisations, business correspondents, merchant establishments, IT companies, technology providers, device manufacturers, industry bodies and other stakeholders. 
A few examples of his recent work include:

  • Market review and strategy development to target emerging middle class consumer segments for a leading global financial service provider. (2016)
  • Led a four country project to inform on the state of play and barriers to adoption of digital finance; and recommendations for governments, regulators and financial service providers. (2016)
  • Business case development, financial planning and go-to-market approach for a telecom operator and Payments Bank licensee in India. The engagement also entails consumer segmentation and marketing strategy for the launch of services. (2016)
  • Implementation and scale up of B2B cashless payments business across value chains in Kenya, funded by Equity Bank: The objective is to reduce cash transactions in B2B payments, increase working capital efficiency and offer greater convenience. (2015)
  • Business model and operating plan for mobile and agency banking channels for a leading bank in Uganda. Supported the bank in its plans to rapidly expand retail presence, and target new consumer segments and geographies, leveraging alternate low cost models and value chain partnerships. (2015)
  • Rollout of mobile money in Timor-Leste for BNU and Timor Telecom: End to end support to BNU and Timor-Telecom in pilot design and planning; developing processes, training on content development and delivery; developing the marketing strategy and collaterals; agent selection and on-boarding and launching the pilot services. (2014)

Prior to MicroSave, Puneet worked for Accenture Consulting as the industry leader for the Telecommunication, Media and Technology group. He was responsible for setting up this business vertical in South-Asia and growing the consulting practice to a USD ten million plus a year business. He has also worked with IBM Business Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Tata group. Puneet holds a Master of Management and is a gold medallist from the School of Management, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, India.
Puneet regularly writes guest columns for business newspapers and magazines (Reuters, The Economic Times, The Business Standard, MINT Newspaper, the Hindu Business Line, Voice and Data Magazine) and is a frequent speaker at national and international events and conferences.
