Sheila Okiro, a banking specialist, leads the Digital Financial Services’ Eco Systems Domain at MicroSave in Kenya.  She has over 17 years of rich experience working with reputed commercial banks in Kenya. Her areas of expertise are e-banking and cash management; corporate and SME banking; budgeting and cost control; strategy formulation; marketing and channel optimisation; training and capacity building; process and procedure formulation and review; project management; team management and development. Sheila is faculty member for the DFS 101 course at The Helix Institute of Digital Finance. The course provides an introduction to the basic foundational details of digital financial services, necessary for people to take subsequent courses.
 
Examples of her recent works include:
 

  • Exposure Visit for participants from Lao PDR under MM4P programme in Uganda, funded by UNCDF: conducted a visit, which was a hybrid of institutional visits and a workshop on the DFS Ecosystem and Digital Financial Services Product Development. (2016)
  • Increased penetration and utilisation of Electronic Channel Services in Kenya, funded by Co-operative Bank of Kenya: strategy formulation and implementation; marketing and channel optimisation; business development and stakeholder management; capacity building; process and procedure formulation and review; project management; team management and development, budgeting and cost control. (2010–2014)
  • Corporate Banking Development and Portfolio Management in Kenya, funded by Co-operative Bank of Kenya: business development and relationship management; credit analysis, proposal writing and facility restructure; effective client wallet sizing; portfolio monitoring and evaluation; negotiation and contract review; sectorial and industry analysis. (2oo5–2010)

 
Prior to joining MicroSave, Sheila was the Chief Manager-Electronic Banking Channels at Co-operative Bank of Kenya Limited. Before that, she has worked with Middle East Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Commercial Bank of Africa, Barclays Bank, and Trust Bank in Kenya. Sheila obtained an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Executive MBA) from Strathmore Business School and Bachelor of Commerce from University of Nairobi.
