As the Livestock Lead, you will drive productivity and income gains through breed improvement, animal health systems, fodder and feed solutions, while working closely with technical partners and converging with government schemes at scale. The role offers end-to-end ownership, from technical design and partner coordination to aggregation and market linkages, giving you a unique platform to create commercially viable, livestock enterprises that directly improve smallholder livelihoods across Bihar.
Job Description:
The Senior Livestock Lead –
Goatery & Poultry Value Chains will be responsible for the following:
Livestock
Development & Value Chain Strengthening:
- Design and implement Goatery and poultry development
strategies aligned with the program objectives and district-specific contexts.
- Lead production planning, breed improvement, and
productivity enhancement strategies in close coordination with technical
partners line departments, and veterinary institutions.
- Promote improved fodder cultivation systems, feed
formulation practices, and locally appropriate housing models for small
ruminants and poultry.
- Strengthen adoption of climate-resilient and
sustainable livestock practices, including stress management and disease
prevention.
Animal
Health Systems & Service Delivery:
- Strengthen animal health systems, including
deworming, vaccination, bio-security, and extension services through convergence
with government veterinary services and consortium partners.
- Facilitate access to quality breeding stock,
vaccination schedules, and preventive health protocols at the last mile.
- Support development and strengthening of
community-based service delivery models (para-vets, vaccination teams,
extension cadres), aligned with partner-led approaches.
Capacity
Building & Technical Advisory:
- Build capacities of FPCs, producer groups, and field
functionaries on Goatery and poultry enterprise management, productivity
improvement, and risk mitigation.
- Provide technical backstopping to district and block
teams and ensure technical coherence across technical partners.
- Promote best practices in animal nutrition, housing,
health management, and animal welfare.
Partnerships,
Convergence & Market Linkages:
- Facilitate convergence with state and central
government schemes related to small ruminants, poultry development, insurance,
and infrastructure support.
- Strengthen backward and forward linkages for input
supply (feed, chicks, breeding stock, vaccines) and output aggregation and
marketing.
- Liaise with traders, processors, integrators, and
institutional buyers to develop aggregation models and assured market access.
- Explore and operationalize inter-district,
inter-state, and export market opportunities for meat and livestock products,
in alignment with regulatory and quality standards.
Monitoring,
Reporting & Knowledge Management:
- Monitor productivity improvements, animal health
outcomes, and enterprise performance using field-level data and analytics.
- Track risks related to disease outbreaks, mortality,
feed availability, and market volatility, and recommend mitigation strategies
in coordination with consortium partners.
- Contribute to progress reviews, joint learning
forums, case studies, and best-practice documentation across technical
partners.
- Support preparation of reports, presentations, and
briefs for internal leadership, donors, and external stakeholders.

Team Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with district teams, thematic experts,
and technical partners to ensure coordinated delivery of livestock
interventions.
- Maintain regular
communication with program leadership on progress, risks, dependencies, and emerging
opportunities.
