On 3rd November 2025, The Government of India hosted a high-level delegation from Ethiopia and development partners for a learning exchange on the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM). MSC served as the knowledge partner under the Learning Across Borders (LaB) initiative. The initiative shared India’s experience in advancing women-led economic empowerment and community-driven development.

The exchange gave participants a comprehensive understanding of NRLM’s policy evolution, institutional frameworks, and implementation strategies. Delegates engaged with government leaders, practitioners, and community institutions to learn how self-help groups (SHGs) and federations drive financial inclusion, social empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods at scale.

The exchange also included thematic sessions on institution building, financial inclusion, farm and non-farm livelihoods, and monitoring systems. It also exposed delegates to digital innovations that support program delivery. These interactions highlighted the role of coordinated governance, capacity building, and technology support in large-scale development programs.

Ethiopia gained actionable insights to inform its own rural livelihoods and women’s empowerment agenda through this exchange. The initiative strengthened cross-country collaboration and reinforced the value of shared learning in building inclusive, resilient, and community-driven ecosystems.
