Jenifer Shapiro

Jenifer Shapiro is MSC’s Manager of Global Insights based in Washington, DC. She has over 10 years of experience working in corporate finance with boutique valuation advisory firms, as well as consulting experience in microfinance and development finance gained through projects with international NGOs, microfinance credit rating agencies, and international development finance institutions. She has had experience working overseas in Thailand, Moldova, India, and East Africa.

Examples of her recent works include:  {2017 MSC commissioned} - Evaluated the state of humanitarian cash transfer programs and digital payments to refugees in BidiBidi Camp, Yumbe, Uganda from the demand and supply sides to draw out lessons learned for stakeholders operating in refugee programming  2017 - Consulted for a promising agriculture tech startup in Nairobi, Kenya serving smallholder farmers throughout Kenya to create a financial model and investor pitch deck for prospective equity investors, and advised management how to scale, monetize, and commercialize the product, and streamline the supply chain  {2011 - KfW funded} Conducted primary and secondary research on various consultancy projects including expanding agricultural value chain financing in Georgia; introducing savings products and a mobile banking platform at an MFI in Kyrgyzstan; expanding agricultural financing in Ukrainian financial institutions  {2010} Co-wrote The State of Microfinance Investment: The 2010 MIV Survey, which reviewed the evolution, growth, and trends of the MIV industry disseminated to microfinance investors, fund managers, and industry professionals Before joining MSC, Jenifer was a Manager at Valuation Services where she valued small and middle market private companies for financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance, stock compensation plans and litigation support. She also consulted for the Grameen Foundation; in this capacity, she was charged with valuing Grameen’s eight program related equity investments in microfinance institutions (MFIs) and early stage consumer goods companies located in India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Kenya. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Tufts University with a specialisation in International Affairs, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Finance and a Master of Arts in International Affairs with a specialisation in International Political Economy from American University. She is fluent in Turkish and proficient in French.
