Roles and Responsibilities:
• Write, edit, and proofread various content types, including but not limited to reports, articles, blog posts, project summaries, grant proposals, newsletters, press releases, and social media content.
• Ensure alignment with MSC’s house style, consistency of tone, voice, and language and improve grammar, spellings, usage, and consistency of style for all reports
• Conduct research to gather accurate and relevant information for content creation, with a focus on development topics, such as poverty alleviation, gender equality, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
• Edit documents for grammar, punctuation, style, and adherence to development sector best practices.
• Collaborate closely with MSC’s team of
consultants, researchers, and other stakeholders to understand key messages and ensure content aligns with organizational goals.
• Adapt complex development language into clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate formats.
• Help the the editorial lead create training material for scheduled training sessions
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in the development sector and non-profit communications.
Requirements
Essential skills:
• At least 8 - 10 years of professional experience in copywriting, editing, and
content creation within the development sector (experience with NGOs,
international organizations, or development-focused media preferred) or general
publishing, business editing, or technical editing
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with keen attention to
detail
• Ability to work well under tight deadlines, ability to edit and rewrite
content while preserving meaning
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with various teams
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt content for different
audiences
• Experience with style guides and brand
guidelines
Total years of experience: 8-10 years
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, International
Development, Journalism, or a related field
Other requirements: Strong understanding of development issues and terminology
across sectors, such as financial inclusion, gender, climate change, and health
and nutrition, among related areas
