Responsibilities
The Assistant Manager - Climate Change and Sustainability will be responsible for executing projects in areas such as climate change mitigation, climate adaptation, climate finance, climate-smart agriculture, green MSMEs, disaster risk reduction, and other related fields. This role will involve conducting in-depth sectoral and thematic research, independently producing knowledge documents, and undertaking field visits to gather first-hand insights. Additionally, the Assistant Manager will lead work streams within assignments, focusing on delivering high-quality analytical reports and presentations. The position will also emphasize continuous learning and the development of expertise in climate change and sustainability, through training opportunities and participation in relevant forums and events.
Business Execution
- Assist in the planning and implementation of research and technical assistance assignments.
- Lead debriefing sessions for assigned projects and assignments.
- Build strong client relationships to ensure smooth execution of assignments.
- Ensure high-quality execution of projects through careful planning and attention to detail.
- Take the lead in writing reports and analyzing data, ensuring clear and actionable insights. Review training materials, research papers, curricula, and technical assistance provided to clients.
- Contribute to the development of MSC’s toolkits, publications, and other resources.
Business Development
- Proactively track requests for proposals and, where applicable, initiate client relationships.
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
- Assist in the development of proposals to generate business for the Climate Change and Sustainability practice area.
- Represent MSC at conferences and events to enhance visibility and establish new partnerships.
- Contribute to thematic publications, including Focus Notes and Briefing Notes, based on field experiences.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create blogs, reports, and other publications for external distribution.
- Support MSC in organizing regular meetings, workshops, and seminars on topics related to climate change and sustainability.
Capacity Development
- Conduct "Quality of Delivery" and Feedback assessments with team members after assignments, following quality control guidelines.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to peers, supporting their professional growth and development.
- Share knowledge and foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development by acquiring new skills and knowledge that contribute to the organization’s success.
Requirements
Academic/
professional qualifications:
MBA or Masters in Climate Change, Natural Resource
Management, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Climate Finance, Agriculture,
Rural Development, Urban Planning, Economics, Public Administration, Social
Work, or related areas.
Experience
- 3 -5 years of experience
in the development and social sector with a consulting firm, think tank,
donor/development agency, research organization, or government. (This is the
minimum experience. Candidates with more relevant experience in the area of climate
mitigation, climate finance will be preferred)
- Excellent
communication, analytical and research skills including technical writing, presentation,
primary and secondary research, intellectual curiosity, and passion for the environment
sector
- Experience in
one or more of the following sectors – climate change mitigation, climate
adaptation and resilience, climate finance, climate change and MSMEs, agriculture,
food security, rural development, urban planning and ESG. However, experience
in climate change mitigation, finance, and MSME development is preferable.
