Product development

At MSC, we are dedicated to advancing financial inclusion by developing practical, client-centric products for the diverse needs of underserved segments. This includes women, low-income households, smallholder farmers, MSMEs, gig workers, caregivers, day wage earners, youth, and migrants.

With over 25 years of experience, we have worked with a wide range of financial institutions, which include non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs), microfinance institutions (MFIs), and mainstream financial service providers across Asia and Africa to deliver effective solutions. We support these institutions to design, test, and launch affordable, customer-focused products that are scalable and sustainable. Our work spans a broad spectrum of financial services which includes payments, credit, savings, insurance, and pensions.

Our approach is grounded in deep behavioral insights, human-centered design, and robust field research. We align product offerings with real customer needs to help financial institutions overcome common barriers such as irregular income, lack of formal credit history, and limited access to secure savings options.

We support clients across the entire product lifecycle:

  • In-depth market research using our proprietary MI4ID methodology to uncover behavioral insights
  • Product design and prototyping based on customer journeys and business needs
  • Pilot testing and refinement in controlled, data-driven environments
  • Costing and pricing analysis to balance affordability with sustainability
  • Channel optimization through agents, mobile platforms, or digital apps
  • Go-to-market strategy and rollout planning
  • Marketing, communication, and customer education
  • Staff capacity building and training to manage and promote new offerings based on real-world experience
  • Cross-functional collaboration aligned with leadership goals

We believe that a product’s success lies not just in its features, but in how well it resonates with the user’s’ aspirations and lives.
