MSC developed a strategy to roll out Water.org’s WaterCredit program and identified potential MFIs and WASH NGOs partners. Based on MSC’s recommendations, Water.org launched its WaterCredit program in Indonesia in 2014. Over 470,000 WaterCredit loans totaling USD 18 million were disbursed in Indonesia by the end of 2018.
MSC and Tremolet Consulting helped a group of 30 pit-emptying enterprises achieve growth in Dar es Salaam, under UKAid’s SHARE program. MSC trained enterprises to help them access working capital to purchase new sanitation equipment. By the end of 2017, these enterprises had accessed more than USD 100,000 in working capital loans and had expanded their services around the city.
MSC assessed the market for Water.org’s WaterCredit offering in central and south India. Our assessment helped Water.org to expand the partner base for its WaterCredit initiatives in India. At the time of writing, Water.org had reached more than 7 million people across 12 states in India through 21 microfinance partners.
Friends of Women World Banking (FWWB) India contracted MSC to evaluate its WASH loan portfolio after the conclusion of a project on WASH loans. The loans would finance the construction of toilets and facilitate water connections from public utilities. MSC’s work enabled FWWB to support 370 institutions that disbursed more than 45,000 toilet loans.
MSC was engaged to scale up Water.org’s WaterCredit concept to help banks, MFIs, and NGOs build their WASH finance portfolios. MSC developed a series of five toolkits that found extensive use among partners of Water.org. In Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, 150 bank managers received training on the toolkits.
