Background:
Inclusive finance can be instrumental in bolstering the resilience of communities most affected by climate change. It can support their autonomous adaptation strategies and be catalytic for executing planned actions. However, conversations about promoting locally-led adaptation and how inclusive financial services can best support them are still in their early stages. Current adaptation methods do not fully leverage the potential of financial services to enhance resilience to climate change. Simultaneously, the world of inclusive finance has not thoroughly incorporated climate change challenges and vulnerabilities into its strategies and offerings.
Objective:
The Gobeshona Global Conference, a virtual series dedicated to Locally Led Adaptation (LLA), continues its yearly commitment to advance LLA initiatives worldwide. It seeks to bring together researchers, practitioners, and supporters of LLA. The seven-day virtual event will kick off on 1st March 2024 and will be hosted by the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD).
As part of the conference, a webinar titled “Inclusive finance for locally-led climate adaptation” will be organized on 6th March. MSC, ICCCAD, and CGAP will share insights and highlight the role financial services play to advance locally-led adaptation (LLA) and convene donors that work in financial inclusion and climate change.
