Exciting Opportunity for an Agriculture Expert in Bangladesh!
Are you passionate about agriculture, food systems, and allied sectors? We’re seeking a driven Agriculture Expert to lead business development and project execution in Bangladesh. You'll identify consulting opportunities, generate leads, and build key partnerships with donors, government bodies, and private sector players.
This role involves developing proposals, pitch decks, and concept notes, supported by teams in India and Bangladesh. Beyond BD, you’ll execute projects, conduct research, engage stakeholders, and visit field sites across Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Indonesia, and Nepal. Collaboration on agri-finance, digital agriculture, and climate-resilient farming will be key to delivering impact.

Business Development
  • Identifying potential consulting opportunities, understanding key areas of deliverables, writing proposals, developing concept notes, pitch decks etc.
  • Build relationships with existing and potential clients in the agriculture domain such as various directorates and departments of the relevant ministries in Bangladesh, other country-level agencies, private sector players/ service providers in the agriculture and food processing, fintech, start-ups, and government think tanks, etc.
  • Take initiatives to develop and maintain client relationships to develop a pipeline of projects in the agriculture sector
  • Develop and submit proposals to generate business for the domain
  • Represent MSC at conferences, workshops, international events, and plenary discussions etc. Author /co-author of thematic publications to be developed from field experiences (Focus notes/briefing notes)

Business Execution

  • Provide technical advisory and project management support to the state government/ client
  • Participate in assignment set-up and de-briefing meetings of assignments in the Agriculture and Food System capability
  • Lead teams of 3 to 4 members in assignments under supervision, which will include field visits, stakeholders’ interaction, regular engagement with the client
  • Lead and contribute to the process of report writing and data analysis,
  • Execute assignments with the utmost diligence, attention to detail and focus on quality,
  • Assist in the review of training courses delivered, research papers prepared, curriculum developed and technical assistance provided to clients of the P&D domain,
  • Assist in organizing state/national-level events and workshops for MSC

Human Capital Development

  • Conduct “Quality of Delivery”/feedback assessments with team members after assignment execution in line with the quality control guidelines
  • Assist and support the development of other staff by providing guidance and advice where appropriate
  • Take ownership of self-development by acquiring skills and knowledge which add value to the organization


Requirements

Academic/ professional qualifications:

  • Masters level degree (or higher) in Business/Agribusiness/ Economics/Sociology or related fields from a reputed institute
  • Other relevant professional qualifications in line with areas of specialization
  • Strong knowledge of agriculture sector and the socio-economic development issues


Experience:

  • At least 10-15 years’ experience in agriculture and allied sector, consulting or research or other relevant areas
  • Experience in the implementation of government/ related projects in the fields of agriculture, understanding of policy and program assessment, livelihoods, agri value chains etc.
  • Experience in managing relationships with various stakeholders including donor agencies, ministries,private sector players, and think-tanks in Bangladesh is preferred
  • Experience in policy design, program implementation, community engagement, monitoring and evaluation of the government initiatives is preferred
  • Client relationship management and key stakeholders in Agriculture Development Ecosystem to improve productivity, sustainability, and farmer livelihoods.
  • The type of stakeholders in agriculture ecosystem we are talking about will include, but not limited to the following:- Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC), Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Banks & MFIs (BRAC, Grameen Bank, Krishi Bank), Development Partners & NGOs, FAO, IFAD, World Bank, USAID, BRAC, CARE Bangladesh, Farmer Cooperatives & Associations such as Krishak Samity (Farmer Associations) and the Value Chain Actors (Input suppliers, traders, exporters) - Link farmers to domestic and international markets.

 
Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative, and proven problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional report structuring and storyboarding skills
  • Strong industry network comprising of key personnel belonging to funding agencies, Ministry of Agriculture, government officials and private sector players in Bangladesh
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present information in an insightful and structured manner, both written and oral
  • In-depth knowledge of the agriculture and allied sectors, including regional landscapes such as Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh
  • Strong grassroot level understanding of the key challenges across prevalent value chains of agriculture and allied sectors across the different regional landscapes of Bangladesh
  • Passionate about agricultural transformation to achieve large-scale impact, ability to think and act strategically
  • Ability to lead assignments and teams and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to build client relationships and develop business opportunities
  • Strong attention to detail with good field orientation and proven interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel for as required by the implementation, business development and promotional activities of the organization
