Mobile financial services

MSC has deep global expertise in mobile financial services (MFS) delivered through agent networks, which spans strategic design, implementation, and scaling across multiple continents. We help design new products, strengthen last-mile delivery, and build inclusive ecosystems to empower low- and moderate-income customers to access, use, and benefit from digital finance.

A key part of this work is our collaboration with mobile network operators (MNOs) and agent network managers (ANMs). With MNOs, we design branchless banking strategies, strengthen channels, and cocreate customer-centric solutions customized to low-income communities, which range from mobile payments to school fee products.

Additionally, with ANMs, we help strengthen the agent lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to training, certification, monitoring, grievance resolution, and promotion of long-term sustainability.

Through our engagements with MFS providers, MNOs, and ANMs, we create a holistic ecosystem where digital financial services are widely available, trusted, and adopted. Our work ensures that underserved households and small businesses gain meaningful access to formal financial tools to build economic resilience, enhance their inclusion, and achieve growth. Our interventions have helped expand agent networks to millions of customers across Asia and Africa, strengthen financial resilience for women agents, and inform national-level policies on agent networks.

  • We generate evidence through programs, such as the Agent Network Accelerator (ANA), which covers 31,500+ agents and 81 providers across 14 countries.
  • We translate insights into actionable strategies that improve liquidity, onboarding, monitoring, and agent performance.
